2nd-4th June – All Aboard

Take a nostalgic journey through time and discover years of history and heritage in the heart of England. Experience a classic combination as you enjoy a relaxing cruise through Birmingham’s historic network of canals and climb aboard for a train journey on a heritage railway. For those who yearn for an era of leisurely pace of times gone by, this is a wonderful reminder as well as a unique way to enjoy the surrounding area. Friday we will depart Cornwall making our way to the 4* hotel stopping at Stratford-upon-Avon along the way. Day 2 we will head to The Battlefield Line Railway for a return journey of around an hour on a heritage train from Shackerstone Station. In the afternoon you will explore an National Forest Market Town before heading back to your hotel for the evening. Day 3 you will be leaving the hotel and heading to Birmingham to enjoy an one hour ‘Country in the City’ canal cruise out into the country. With more miles of Canal then Venice, there are plenty of beautiful views. Following the cruise you will enjoy some free time in Birmingham City Centre before beginning your return journey home.

20th-24th July – Stunning Staffordshire Potteries, Perennials and Poppies

Discover striking Staffordshire with inspiring landscapes, glorious estates and a unique and stirring history and heritage. Immerse yourself in the surroundings of Britain’s greatest luxury ceramics company, explore outstanding award-winning gardens, experience the sights, sounds and smells of the UK’s only complete working historic estate and encounter the serenity of the UK’s year-round Centre of Remembrance. On the 21st enjoy a visit to Shugborough Hall and Estate on an 1 hour guided tour led by an expert guide exploring Patricks Lichfield’s private apartments and see many personal objects and artefacts. Followed by a light buffet lunch and afternoon cakes whilst still having free time to explore the remainder of the estate. On the 22nd we will be attending World of Wedgwood in the AM which is set in 240 of parkland acres and engaging factory tour, followed by at 14:00 an free flow visit of Trentham Gardens which had been said to be ‘one of the UK’s must see gardens’. On Sunday the 23rd we will be attending the UK’s year round centre of remembrance ‘The National Memorial Arboretum’ covering 150 acres the arboretum has something for everyone.

Please note: Management of Shugborough is due be handed back to the National Trust from 31 October 2016 when the whole estate will close to allow work to take place. It is expected to reopen in Spring 2017 as a traditional National Trust property. Hopefully this will be a positive move and the format of our future visits will remain unaltered, however this cannot be confirmed at this stage so bookings are currently subject to alteration.

28th July – 1st August – Cream of the Cotswold

Explore a national treasure, home of the 12th Duke and Duchess of Marlborough and birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill and an Elizabethan jewel used in TV and film productions such as Lark Rise to Candleford and Poldark. You can also experience the idyllic picture-postcard countryside with rolling hills and an abundance of historic market towns and pretty honey-coloured limestone villages. On arrival at the hotel you will receive tea/coffee and biscuits while checking in. On the 29th you will be visiting Blenheim Palace a national treasure and home of the 12th Duke and Duchess of Marlborough and the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. Explore this world heritage site and it’s 2000 acres of landscaped parkland.On the 31st we will be visiting the Chavenage House with an meet and greet by a family member to give a brief Introduction of the house followed by an 2 hour guided tour. This wonderful Elizabethan house of mellow grey Cotswold Stone and tiles. Only two families have owned Chavenage, the present owners since 1891 and the Stephens family before them. A Colonel Nathaniel Stephens, MP for Gloucestershire during the civil war was cursed for supporting Cromwell, giving rise to legends of weird happenings at Chavenage since that time, the tour will then be followed with tea and cake which will be served in the ball room.

2nd-6th October—Beautiful Bournemouth and Delights of Dorset

Steeped in history and stunning scenery, savour the splendour of the Dorset Coast whilst experiencing magnificent historic gardens and memorable journeys including a relaxing cruise and a tranquil train ride. Discover one of Britain’s favourite seaside resorts combined with natural landscapes and outstanding coastline. On Tuesday the 3rd you will be travelling to Compton Acres for an 90 minute guided tour of its 10 acres of beautiful gardens and is highly regarded as one of the most important historic gardens in the UK, you will also have free time to explore the gardens at leisure. On the 4th we will be heading to Poole Pottery to visit the working studio and meet the Throwers, Artists and Designers. Watch demonstrations of pot throwing and decorating, after the visit you will be attending the Poole Harbour lunch cruise with fresh fish and chips from an award winning fish bar. Take in the spectacular views as you cruise through beautiful Poole Harbour and along the start of the Jurassic Heritage coast sailing into Swanage Bay. The boat then lands on a Victorian pier at Swanage where you will stroll through this quaint town to board a steam train where you will sit back and relax in specially reserved seats during a leisurely trip behind an historic steam locomotive before heading back to the Hotel. On the 5th you will have a day of leisure and will be left to your own devices.
